Upgrading from a 40 breeder to a standard aqueon 75 gallon. One of my pumps just died on my 40 breeder, so I figure I'd just crank up my remaining pump (nero 3) and instead of replacing it on the 40b, I'll just start buying for the 75. Just looking for suggestions on which pumps I should consider for the 4 footer. I don't have $500+ to drop on name brand stuff but Jebao style has like 100 different options from gyres to nero knock offs and everything in between that all look the same to me, so I'm feeling lost.

For my 75 which I decided not to set up because the glass was tempered I was looking at their gyres.

Amazon product

Their app is ok but since I couldn't get their wave makers to alternate without overlapping and becoming out of sync I wondered if the gyres would be any better. I wanted a gentler, back and forth motion similar to the tunze wavebox. :)

I have had great results over the past 5 years with Jebao OW series pumps. Im a Tunze guy and prefer the Jebao controler to the Tunze controller.
That said I have several new OW 40's sitting on the shelf if needed.

My favorite is a Tunze dc powerhead on a Sea Sweep. You can get away with one on a 75. Its around $1k for the sweep and powerhead but what isnt $1k in this hobby.

Take a look at the Sweep, or the Swirl that attatches to your return.
I run 2 Sweeps on my 59×30×21.
Imo the best random flow available to the hobby.

You can buy a whole box of Jebaos for that price though so you cant go wrong with one.

The best thing is you only need 1 in most systems. I had 6 powerheads in my 120 for proper flow. Now my 170 has only 2 SS and more random flow than I currently need.

Pic 1 is 2 OW 25's that need a cleaning.

A couple pics for people that have never seen a Sea Sweep.

Jebao amazing wave makers!!! And they are normally overpowered for what they recommend.

I find name brands to be pretty average especially maxspect, I will never touch another maxspect again trash product and doesn't even come close to the quality of jebaos. Sicce is another good reliable brand, but I find the propellers will break apart if the environment is harsh. Dalua is another good pump as well. But tbh Jabao, jabao, jabao all the way for me. Call them cheap all you want the quality is amazing and ultra quiet pumps compared to competitors. One product you can scimp on in this hobby ;)

I’m a fan of easy maintenance so I went with

2xNero 3
1xTunze Turbelle

If I could do it all over I would just go with all Tunze, they are bulletproof and so easy to clean. I’m very over the whole “control your pump with an app” thing. Nero’s are very easy to clean but I find them a little delicate and need more cleaning the. The Tunzes by a lot.

Plenty of good options already mentioned. The only gyre I didn't see listed is the Hygger. I've had one in my 110 gallon for about 6 months now. Running strong, and I still haven't had to clean it. Great Gyre for the price.
