Recently I managed to get a brilliant Fluvial Flex 135lt with filter and more off eBay for a steal - £40 .

I've been keeping freshwater tropical tanks for some time with great results - so decided to make this one into my first reef tank.

Based on what I read online I've got a sub-par set up, but still workable with some effort:
- built in filter;
- wavemaker;
-protein skimmer;
-mix of live and dead rocks;
-live sand .

Currently cycling , here's the parameters so far:

hope they make sense.
The protein skimmer was installed after I took those readings.

PH is low, but waiting for my cycle to end before worrying about it, and plan to have my local fish store also do a water check to be sure I haven't missed anything.

Planned live stock :
Fish and a few soft corals , hermit crabs and maybe a coral-safe starfish.

I will keep updating how is going, but any suggestion is welcome, especially on parameters.

And if I am not supposed to post this here I apologise, just point me innthe right direction.

Cheers

That was a steal, good purchase! As long as u enjoy and like what you see, that's all that matters and there's no such thing as sub par tank.

Thanks, yeah I couldn't believe it, the guy barely used it - came with cabinet, filter, an amazing air pump and some bottles of stuff I won't use (like ph down and so on).

Most of my equipment are used to save $, there's plenty of good deals available and I hate to say this but esp. when folks throw in the towel and leave the hobby. I try not to get caught up with new and fancy brands, plenty of ways to have successful tank in this hobby w/o breaking the bank. @telegraham often discusses this on his Instagram and youtube accounts.

At the moment the rocks are quite stable and didn't move when pushed around but some glue will definetly help

Small update:

Cycling's looking good, also added a protein skimmer that seems to be working as expected.

Here's the results from my kit, still waiting forNO2 and NO3 to drop before asking the local aquarium store to test my water:
