A lot of fish are endangered, all to the cause of overfishing. These species have been taken from the water in such amounts that if we don't stop, they will be extinct soon.

The following species are endangered from overfishing:

Conger eel- Almost all caught are juveniles that haven't had a chance to reproduce.

Salmon

Chilean sea bass- They also have a high seabird bycatch.

Dogfish

European hake

Grouper

European seabass- Fisheries target areas with not fully mature fish, so they can't reproduce, and high whale bycatch.

Ling: Habitat vulnerable to fishing

Swordfish/Marlin

Monkfish

Halibut- Late maturing

Orange roughy- Late maturing

Sharks- Used to make shark fin soup and liver oil.

Skates and rays

Snapper

Sturgeon- Used for caviar

Tuna- All species are endangered.

Haddock

Cod/Scrod

Hoki- Served at fast food restaurants, customers often have no idea they are eating it. Also called the blue hake, blue grenadier, and whiptail.

Pollock

Redfish- Often marketed as 'perch'

Sardines and Anchovies

Non-fish speices:

Shellfish

Shrimp or prawn

Queen conch

Squid

Whales, dolphin, sea turtles, seals, manatees and seabirds are also bycatch,

Predators like bigger fish and seabirds have to change their diet.

If we don't start fishing sustainably, the void in the seas where fish used to be would be filled with jellyfish. The oceans we once knew would be transformed.

How to help: Avoid these species when eating fish unless they are farm-grown.

While I was researching, this though came to mind. Is there a single marine species not endangered by overfishing?

Your source is radical propaganda that has very little scientific merit. This type of stuff should be removed from this site for misleading and inaccurate information

(Dad responding).

Thanks for the heads up. Will appreciate sources that are informative so that I can help direct Bambooshark’s efforts. He’s a little fish lover and figuring out the things.

I don’t disagree that ocean life idle being threatened on many sides. Including but not limited to overfishing and commercial exploitation as well the general degradation of the environment. But the sources you cited are anything but unbiased scientific studies . Please cite sources that are scientific and objective.

plastic
Toxin waste
Dragging sea bottom with chains
Through back what fishermen don’t want and most times dead
Pollution from commercial shipping vessels
Human waste getting pumped in to the sea tons a day every day
Dangerous chemicals been used by farmers and ends up in run off into are seas
Shipping containers that are lost from container ships
Oil spills from commercial shipping vessels also diesel
Lost fishing nets tangling every fish to a death sentence also dolphins/ turtles/ and many more. If I was a fish ii would want to be in a good aquarium. So first of all i would worry about the above Most fish can be captive bred and reintroduced to the sea
