I got this flame scallop which I love…but I noticed he has this white stringy thing on his shell in a few places. What is it? @ISpeakForTheSeas @vetteguy53081

Byssal Threads! They use those to hold on! Probably from when they moved him at the store.

If and when the scallop moves around he will leave them behind, so don’t be surprised if you see them around the tank, most noticeable if the scallop attaches to the glass.

I touched it/briefly pulled on it because I thought it was algae. Now I feel bad. Sorry Mr. Flame Scallop!
