This is my first saltwater fish tank I'm making after many freshwater tanks I have through out the years. I decide to go with a 40g breeder and a 30 gallons sump. I start a thread on another page but this is the right page to keep the progress of my new adventure. I would like to thanks many of the members here that help me out with a few question I had and their suggestions. I think R2R is the BEST saltwater forum with a quick response not only from the Staff but from other members that make a little easier for a new reefer to get the knowledge and make the right decision on this hobby. Thanks to All.

My goal is to make a FOWLR first and later going with Corals. Here we go..

This is a few pics of the progress form the beginning when I drill the tank, installed the Eshopps overflow and return line until I finished the stand. Right now I'm working on the sump that probably will be ready by this weekend.

Aqueon 40g Breeder
DIY stand
30g DIY sump
Eshopps Eclipse S overflow
Reef Octopus 110 Skimmer
Aqueon 400gph return pump
Jebao 0w-025 wavemaker
Jebao PP4 wavemaker
2- Noopsyche K7 Pro LED light
35 lbs of dry rock in DT 10 lbs on refugium

Done with the sump, not a nice looking but it works the way should be. So, almost ready for rock, sand and water. Working now on the plumbing connections.

The sump will hold around 15 gallons of water so it will be a total of 55 Gallons on the whole system.

Thanks KJ. I never been so excited with a fish tank that with this one. Maybe because I make myself a few things like the sump, drilling the tank, the stand or because is my first saltwater, but I enjoy working on this project.

Looking good! I think going FOWLR first is best. By the time your ready for corals you tank will be mature as will you as hobbyist

Thanks you. I agree with you. Something that I learn by reading is not to rush on this hobby. Freshwater fish keeping is a complete deference scenario even with the same principles.

Yeah I went FOWLR for 8 years before I went to reef. I learned a whole lot and when it came time to keeping corals I was able to keep all my fish happy and healthy and still have tangs that 10 years old. I am very careful not to overstock the tank, something I did as new hobbyist when I added 6 predators to a 55gallon. Keeping corals is entirely different but then again has many similarities and I think your on the right track...good luck

Today is my first day of cycling my 10g tank that I will use for quarantine. Yesterday I add the Dr Tms One and Only bacteria bottle and I did my first test after 24 hours. I think is working but I will do another test tomorrow.
