I have been trying to grow SPS without success and I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.
My tank is 4 ft 90 gal (RSR 425). I have 3 Reefi Uno Pro 2.0 over the tank 13 in from water. I’m using Tropic Marin Pro Reef salt (35ppt stable with ato). I have 2 MP40s on back wall, 2 Maxsepct 350s on the overflows, and 2 Maxspect 330s on the side walls. I know it’s a lot of powerheads but they are all turned down to 20-30% and there seems to be decent flow. My torches and hammers are growing and flow seems ok.
I have an Apogee SQ 420x par meter (the black head one without the reader that plugs into computer). I believe this sensor is off by about 10% but that shouldn’t matter? My par is about 350 at top of rocks and 150-200 at the sand bed and pretty even across the tank.
Alk is 8.4, Ca 460, Mag 1450 (Hanna checkers/Red Sea/AF test kits all confirmed).
Nitrate is 5. Phos is 0.08 (Hanna). Ammonia and nitrite 0.
My rocks were in water for 6 months and the tank has been running for 7 months (so in water for 13 months). It Marco rock
I have bleached numerous frags and can’t for the life of me figure out what I’m doing wrong. I’ve purchased from WWC and Battle Corals as well as a trusted LFS. I dip per instructions with Reef Primer. I have even tried not dipping from Battle Corals which I believe has pretty strict quarantine/dipping practices and I have not noticed any parasites. I also haven’t noticed any fish picking on anything.
I’ve bleached montiporas and birdsnests stylos and numerous acros. Probably have wasted about 500-600 bucks which hurts. I’ve grown acros before in previous tanks so I have no clue what I’m doing wrong this time. I have a couple frags that are pale and one or two that have browned out too. After I killed the first ones I’ve been using a frag rack. My latest ones (a red monti cap, blue stylo) both bleached white on in the bottom corner of my tank on a rack and the green slimer is starting to pale but looks good so far.
I’m dosing Triton Flex and my ICP from them was spot on.
Please help me figure out what I’m doing wrong.
