My Skimz Monzter series Protein Skimmer Pump died on me Sunday, so I have to get a new one! I have narrowed it down to the following 2 skimmers: If you run one of these skimmers, I would love to hear your thoughts on how well the REGAL Runs VS the Elite in performance?? If you comment please, list the size of your tank and Skimmer spec and a pix if you have one on file. I am kind of leaning towards the Elite 150INT Super Cone Protein Skimmer currently. Many thanks!!!

Hey there @FLSharkvictim I have been scrounging around looking at skimmers too. I currently have a skimz mini DC and am worried that it not enough to handle the increased load. I noticed you are looking elsewhere than another skinzs, why is that? I would love a Octo Elite but one of my requirements is a internal pump and small footprint. I have a 75 gal and want to size mine to at least 75-heavy load if not 1oo-heavy, so Im interested how these preform. I'm actually looking at the Simplicity 240 or 320 or another skimz.

A pretty important factor is how large your tank is... how big we talkin?

I have the next size down octo, it works great, i have an ato and that keeps the skimmer from changing output as the level in my fuge goes up and down. Without the ato i did have to chase the settings. It is a very adustable skimmer and i have noticed a huge difference in water parameters(for the better). It will over skim if you allow it to. But better to be able to pull more than not enough. Very easy to clean. I have a 110 h tank w/55 fuge. 12 - 2 inch fish, 140 lbs live rock. Chaeto in fuge, mixed reef of 17 corals.

I had to go with Reef OCTO Regal 150-INT In-Sump Protein Skimmer since BRS could take up to a week to get CoralVue to drop ship a 150 Elite but I cant wait and the Regal 200 will not fit in my sump..

Why am I switching over to a Reef Octo from a SKIMZ is because of there Reef Octo new Pumps and the REGALS are some of there nicest skimmers out there. Hope it fits in my sump.. lol

TANK INFO: Build Thread soon to come.

I looove my REGAL 150INT 6" Internal Protein Skimmer (VARIOS) it pulls out a nice coffee colored sludge and is super quiet.
I had a skims monster 121 prior and it was difficult to get it to skim regularly where as the RO I put it in and adjusted it and haven't touched it since other than feed mode for maitnence.

Of those 2,I would personally pick the elite. The water exit will be quieter. I really don’t like when skimmers have exits that go up and then dump out. If the sump water level isn’t adjusted to it, it will make noise.
