Looks like a heavy bacterial infection. May have stemmed from injury but will require a broad spectrum treatment best being seachem Kanaplex in a separate treatment tank or if existing tank is fish only- Can be applied within. Add aeration with air stone and monitor and maintain ammonia levels.

Did this develop slowly over time, or show up in a week or so? In one pic it looks like a serious bacterial infection, but in another it looks more like a growth or tumor.

How long have you had this fish?
Is it still eating?

I would say it showed up in a week or so, it’s still eating super well and hasn’t changed at all in behavior. I have had it for some months now.

Well, I’d have to say this is a bacterial infection then. I just wanted to rule out a tumor.

Treatment with a broad spectrum gram negative antibiotic in a medication tank is what I would recent; Neoplex or kanaplex are two common options.
