someone help i don’t know how to clean the algae at the bottom of my tank

so i have a magnet cleaner that i clean my tank with and it can only get so far down on the glass before the sand gets in between the magnet and the glass. does anyone know how to get the algae off the bottom part of my glass?? anyone please

You can buy the razor blade on a stick thing and scrape it off.

Use a credit card and scrape between the sand and glass. Be careful not to damage your seams and wash your hands with fresh water.

I dont use razor blades because it's easy to cut silicone seams and scratch acrylic or even glass.

Just a plain paper towel and get in there. That algae will come right off.

Or a flipper brand magnetic cleaner which has a scraper blade built in that sticks out a couple of inches. I can get all the way down to the sand bed with it.

I scratched the crap out of my tank using a flipper. After using it just like I’ve used my mag float for years, without ever scratching it. I may have been doing something wrong but just a word of caution.

I use magnets for safety and quickness of cleaning. Turbo snail, asrea snail, trochus snail and nerite snails will also help control.

That’s very true and a good warning, samnaz. I did scratch my glass tank with it the first time I used it. I ended up replacing the metal blade with the plastic one they sell for acrylic tanks.

Magic eraser works or me. Tunze care magnet with the ME stuck between and away goes the algae.

I use razors on DIY PVC scappers, magfloat with scraper, flipper with scrapper, credit cards (by them selves and with DIY PVC scrappers), paper towels (best way to actually remove algae), my fingers, magic erasers and they all work fine. With razors I never reuse one that's started showing any discoloration, long before any rusts shows and I haven't had problems scratching glass. The problem I've had with any algae magnet is there si iron particles in sand and they can pick it up and scratch glass or acry;lic. When using them I am constanly looking closely for any black/brown particles in the pad. On a 200 gallon tank it may be 3 or 4 times.
