So I'm a Highschool Volunteer at the Seattle Aquarium and while many people stop by to stare and take pics and vids of the tank, I don't get too many questions about our Non-Photosynthetic Display as I would've thought and hoped for since I think it's one of our best displays. This tank is pretty well known between aquarists in the public aquarium scene so I thought I'd show it off here as well. This tank has been a huge inspo for my new 48G Shallow Build that'll be fully NPS (more on that later). We currently don't have any fish in here and haven't for the past couple years actually. It used to be home to a group of Lyertail Anthias and Longspine Cardinals but ever since those were moved, it's been empty. I did ask someone so hopefully I'll get an answer soon.
The reason I want to show this tank off is because this tank actually won't exist soon! For a good reason though! Everything in our Pacific Coral Reef (PCR) Gallery is being moved over across the street to the Ocean Pavilion (The biggest expansion in the Aquarium's history, we're getting sharks with that) so this tank will also be moved over there. I'm not sure what the new layout for this tank will look like, but hopefully we'll get some Deep Water Fish with it. Hopefully I can donate a few species they don't have soon, but here's some info about it:
All Photos Taken by Me
Species:
Orange Sun Coral (Tubastrea spp.)
Black Sun Coral with Fluorescent Green Tips (Tubastrea Micrantha)
'Lighter looking' Black Sun Coral (No fluorescent tips, bigger polyps) (Either Tubastrea Micrantha or Tubastrea diphrana)
Blonde Dendro (Dendrophyllia spp.)
Purple Menella Gorgonian (Menella sp.)
Blueberry Gorgonian (Been doing very well for a long time) (Acalycigorgia sp)
Wire Corals (Green, Pink, and Orange/Yellow) (Cirrhipathes spiralis)
Corallimorphs (Pseudocorynactis sp)
Specifically I'm hoping to donate some other Dendros, Gorgonians, and maybe even Fish. I'm excited to see how this setup will be looking next year at the Ocean Pavilion!
