I did a DIY sump before I really knew the size of various pieces of equipment, and the chamber where the skimmer would go (shared with the return pump) only has a space for a skimmer footprint of 5.5” x 7”, which seems smaller than a **lot** of skimmer options.

I do have space for a HOB, if the body is less than 8” wide the depth can be up to 8”, otherwise the depth is limited to 4.5”.

Frankly I’m not sure of the pros and cons of a HOB vs In Sump, and there’s a lot of brands out there I’m having a hard time wading through.

Tank is a 75 gallon FOWLR with light to moderate bio load.

Very limited with the amount of space that you have. Only 1 comes to mind that is a good skimmer and rated for your tank size is the Bubble Magus Z5 Protein Skimmer. Will get the job done.

I had an ice cap k1-50 I used with my waterbox 65 gallon AIO. It’s a great little skimmer! My chamber it was used in was roughly 5”x7” so it should definitely fit. And the price is good too. I bought mine from aquacave. I didn’t see too many other places that had it available

I like theses as a have a reef octopus but this would be too big for the space he has.
It looks really really close. I just re-measured with the tape in the water (rather than eyeballing from above) and apparently I have about 6.15”….

Very wary of coughing up $300ish to find out I measured wrong.
