Skimmer is producing lots of foam and overflowing

Tank is 3 years old and my skimmer has been in the entire time. Its really foaming today and overflowing. It overflowed into the tank for some reason my auto shutoff did not stop it.

Any reason why a skimmer would be so foamy ?

something changed, I would think.
could be anything from snails spawning leading to more stuff to skim....to a bacterial bloom for some reason...to a skimmer that is needing to be cleaned (although that usually means less skim and not more).

What changed? Mine will foam a lot when I change fleece filter rolls … so I leave the skimmer off for a couple of hours

Cant think of anything. Nothing died. Not really sure. I do clean the skimmer about every 2 months and the basket I clean all the time.

My skimmer started doing that when a small snail got stuck in the teeth of the valve that controls the water intake feed. I have a rs300. Quick inspection for the second time and a crunch later, all fixed.

yes you can actually see my carbon reactor in one of the pics. I run about a cup and change it every 3 weeks give or take a week

Hows it going now? My skimmer is also making foam like this, its so tough that will push the lid off and the bubbles won't even completely pop when I rinse the cup.

I did start dosing Plus NP some weeks ago which is a carbon source, switching from dosing neiphos and neo nitro
