I would like to implement at least some recirculation of air in my skimmer/CO2 scrubber. I read a post from Randy Holmes-Farley stating that he would be concerned about not introducing enough O2 in a tightly sealed recirculating setup.

My skimmer is a Red Sea DC Skimmer 900 with the sensors at the top to automatically adjust the pump if it goes crazy. Which seams like the presence of the sensors would make it more complicated to convert it to a recirculating design.

Has anyone thought of or implemented something like a bowl or hood mounted above the skimmer to recirculate most of the scrubbed air (and smell) while allowing some fresh O2 to enter the system. Seems like it wouldn't be quite as efficient as a fully recirculating system, but would add some humidity, less CO2 introduction, less smell and avoid sucking water into the media while allowing some fresh O2 to enter the system.

I guess I could just drill a hole in the top to connect a bulkhead and not seal the existing exhaust holes.

Though the idea that the skimmer goes nuts, the cup fills up, the sensors don't turn down the pump and I recirculate tank water through the media and back into my tank scares the crap out of me.
