Just got this little juvenile Emporer Angel last week. I got him with a baby Royal Blue Tang who was very sick.

I got the tang to try to save him because he was very malnourished and had some kind of infection on his body. They both had parasites. The water in the bags from the LFS when we brought them home was too high salinity wise (1.027). The salinity in the QT tank is 1.020.

The tang has turned around VERY quickly. Already gained weight and whatever was on his body is almost completely gone. Eats like a champ. The emporer is quickly going downhill though. He was eating when we brought him home, it is losing his appetite. I’m not sure if you can tell from the crappy phone photo, but the white has a ridge in the center of it that protrudes from his body a little bit.

Fish were originally being treated with Prazipro + Cupramine. Slowly raised the dosage over 4 days, wasn’t to full dosage yet. (.35 concentration). We did a water change to remove most of the copper and started treating with Prazipro, Metroplex, and Furan-2 to see if it would help 2 days ago. Can anyone tell me if you know what he has and if we are treating it incorrectly??

Also, QT tank is 40 gallons. Bare bottom with PVC pieces and 2 plastic plants. Sponge filter only. QT Tank has been set up and running for about 2 months.

What is the ammonia level? Also combining the meds can definitely be an issue. In addition cupramine needs to held at .5ppm for 2 weeks minimum to do its job correctly.

The water is definitely not the issue, the parameters are all good. I just did a huge water change 2 days ago to remove the cupramine (I have cuprisorb but it takes weeks to remove that much copper). I always remove any uneaten food when they’re done and scoop the tank every night to remove as much leftover food I might have missed and waste as I can with a net before I go to bed.

According to Seachem: “There is more than a four-fold concentration gap between the minimal therapeutic dose (0.2 mg/L) and the toxic dose (0.8 mg/L).” Cupramine treats ich at .35. They also say it is better to go under on the dosage than over. It doesn’t look like he has something that copper would treat so the copper is irrelevant.
