Share you best vacuum ideas

Hello there, I am looking for your best sump vacuum ideas, ideally something I can hook up to a pump and just run a line out my front door into the grass or a super easy dumping system that doesn't require lugging a ton of buckets.

Currently I have a Homedepot bucket shopvac that will let me do 3-4 gallons at a time which means I have to stop a few times to lug buckets. Ideas?

I tried one of those things that goes on a drill…. Worked for about 15 seconds. I guess it might be good to start a siphon on a long run but I wouldn’t waste your time or $

I use this pump mostly for water changes but I have used it to drain the sump. Works great as I have a utility sink 3' behind the tank/sump and as an added bonus, a 4" floor drain 1' behind the tank/sump.

^^ I use the same pump to empty my mixing tanks and sump. Works like a charm and will pump to nearly nothing left.

Look into a python, I've had one for almost a year and just used it the other day and idk why I never tried it sooner. You hook your garden hose up to one end and it creates a vacuum from the other. Waste water is expelled with the water from your hose (or faucet)

Saltwater will Quickly Destroy a Wet Vacuum, unless you paid $$$$ for a true bypass vacuum. I took one of my Six Gallon Buckets with a snap down, easy off lid. Hole saw drilled the lid and put PVC and ABS Fillings on it to to act as an inline catch bucket. You can get some ideas on the construction, by looking at Saw Dust DIY Catch Buckets on YouTube.

Yeah, this is my second - first one went after about two years, this cheaper version Im no expecting to last all that much longer.

Yeah this would be a great solution and definitely would be able to get any go the dunk out of the sump and out the front door, thanks.

Solid advice on a pump
I'll add if you're on a city sewer system and not a septic system, pump the waste water down the toilet. Your lawn will thank you

it will depend on the length of the tube you using and how hig the sink is.

However, if you need a stronger pump you can pop the adapter out and attach it to a Maxijet 600 to 1200 , or Newa utility pump if you don't have an old MaxiJet laying around.

Once in awhile, that’s what the Vacuum Capture Bucket is for.

For the O.P. have you looked at Peristaltic Pumps. I‘m looking at them, particularly on McMaster-Carr. They have replacement pump heads, plus the tubing by the foot. I’m considering hooking them up to a Hand Operated Timer. Starting the Timer when I’m doing other work on the Aquarium so I can monitor it. The Timer would be a Safety, so I wouldn‘t forget it. I can run it out, with RO/DI tubing following a pipe for my Sump Pump, there’s a wall sleeve there. Into the 4” pipe out into my yard. BTW, I’ve been dumping my waste Saltwater on a Stump, I’m trying to rot. It hasn’t effected the grass or weeds at all.

I use the 25$ bucket head shop vac from the orange home store. Just suck out all the water and gunk at once, call it a water change
