Ok I have a reactor and a timer I'm trying to figure out how much kalkwasser to put in the reactor and how long to run it each time? As well as how wide open I should have the reactor I'm lost and don't want to destroy my coral please help and thank you so much in advance

Generally, how much you put in the reactor depends on the reactor itself, while the amount you dose to the tank depends on your current consumption, and ph but limited by the evaporation rate of your system.

You can find online calculators that can help you find out how much saturated kalk you can dose per day, however keep track of your alk and ph, you don't want to drive it above 8.3.

I'm glad someone pointed out the obvious about the wrong piece of equipment.

The idea behind dosing kalkwasser is to only dose the clear saturated water that stratifys at the top to dose into your tank.

This is usually accomplished with a stirrer of some sort that kicks up the kalk paste at the bottom to allow it to move to saturation in the upper levels of the reactor.

Using a recirculation pump to accomplish this is far from ideal because precipitation will build up on the pump and eventually seizing the rotor preventing it from working.

Your best bet is to get a kalkwasser reactor so that you can start off on the right foot.

I just setup a Two Fishies DIY reactor.....a few days ago.

Using:

550 Fishies Reactor
Magnetic Stirrer
Kamoer X1 PRO T Stepper Pump (key piece)

Right now - I'm dripping 3mls/min. I add 50mls of Kalk every Sunday (that the plan). Stirrer is linked to Apex and stirs kalk powder evey 4 hrs for 5 mins.

So far - results have been phenomenal. Can see the pH boost - Alk & Calc dosing have been drastically cut back.

Highly recommend dripping Kalk.

@DarthChaos assume you have Apex controlling the stepper pump outlet? Turning it off during stirring and when ph is at high end? I am curious what the kamoer does once it gets powered back on, reverts back to its continuous dosing rate?

Can you show a screenshot of the stepper pump settings on the kamoer app.
