Hello guys. If I use actual seawater(far from shore), what are the chances of it having bacteria and parasites that can harm fish- rendering their quarantine useless?

I reach leave seawater for 2 days will kill off ich. But what about other sicknesses?

Thanks!!!

The chance for ich is probably pretty low. However I’m not sure about bacteria and parasites or chemical pollutants.

I don’t think it would be a good idea to use seawater. However this is depends on your location.

@PaulB … summoning for natural seawater advise

..
in the meantime until more competent advise arrives, my take is if you are far enough from a river or sewer outlet, I thought quite a few folks use NSW…
I know I’m at least thinking about serving plankton for my horses

Many many people in south Florida use natural sea water. All the service guys use natural sea water here too. No one seems to have a problem. I would be more concerned about pollution than parasites. The inlet down here most guys pump from you can see the bottom 20’ down on the incoming tide. Super clean clear water.

Depends on what kind of tank your running. Shorewater is basically the waste water of the ocean so it might have a higher nitrates and phosphates. If your running a tidepool tank with things collected from the beach I would do it. If your running a reef setup I wouldn't just to keep proper parameters for coral.

If you live near the sea I don't know why you would use fake seawater. I have been using it for about 50 years and so far, no problems.

Now where I live, the sea is behind my house but I am surrounded by farms and golf courses so I have to go out east about 20 miles or I get to much fertilizer and grow a produce farm.

I don't care about parasites or hitchikers so I can't answer that as I keep my fish immune so they don't get sick.
