I have been searching for a taller option to a 40g breeder. I like the length and width but was never a fan of the 16” depth. I ran across the Seapora 50 g which is the same tank but 18” tall. Ideally I’d like to find something with the same 21” depth as a 75g but it looks like no one makes an off the shelf tank that is 36x18x21. The Seapora 50 is the closest to that being 36x18x18. They also make a 65g that is 36x18x24. I feel that 24” tanks look a little odd and can be hard to reach the bottom back…. So not a fan of this size either. Does anyone have this 50 gallon size tank that I’m looking at and how do you like it? What is everyone’s preference on tank depth?

It really depends on how much you want to spend. You can get an aquarium in that size but, how much is it worth to you?

Most are going to be taller than your ideal tank height. Planet builds theirs as you order them so, a custom order shouldn't be terribly bad in terms of delivery time. What the non-standard glass height does to cost is an unknown to me today.

Same for me, I’m almost afraid to go looking at customs because I know if I do and I can get what I want I’m going to end up spending a whole lot more on a tank. If I go custom I know I will want to go with starphire glass.
The seapora 50g is $240 for the bare tank, which is not for the quality. I know I don’t want to go the cheap petco glass.

I have a Great Lakes aquariums 50 breeder (36x18x18) that I used for an anemone tank. The extra 2” made it easier to create a taller aquascape. IMO they work well for a display type tank but would not be ideal for any sort of frag tank.

A display is exactly what I have in mind, thank you!
