The desire to ride never goes away...2006 CBR1000rr with a kid to worry about changes things. I can't have one because I know how I ride. There is no "slowing down" for me..that doesn't even include the aspects that aren't your fault

Welp, went ahead and did a 20g today to make sure I could syphon out as much algae as I could. Plus got a couple of Aiptasia as well! Just put my hose up to them and it sucked them. In quickly and I caped the end with finger and pulled em out.

Doesn't look like much here, but if you see my other video the other day, you'd see it was a Ton. Maybe a pound to pound and a half all together!

Also a couple of nonflow and top down on the Torches!

So usually @CodyBot has a rule - no free shipping unless you've spent a minimum of whatever the shipping boat costs in real money already. That's an easy solution as well.
That’s the current work around that I generally use to keep it fair. Some vendors have local pickup and it seems fair that one of those people should have the same monetary skin in the game that we require for everyone else that has to buy shipping.

I know sometimes it seems like the rules of my prize eligibility change and can be a bit much, but these all arise organically and serve a purpose. In every sale, there’s someone like Shane is describing. They just want free stuff, and will try every way possible to work around the rules to take advantage of the vendor and the other customers. After all, the more prizes they get, the less there are for the rest of y’all.

My colleague Gregg and I have a very long, and passionate debate going on about where the line should be drawn. I tend to lean towards being freer with prizes, he tends to be more strict. However, we can both agree that the prizes need to be something that rewards the people that are participating in the sale. If I spent $500 on a sale yet some random person that isn’t even shopping gets all the prizes, then I’m not happy. Plus, like I said, the vendor loses too. The $40-50 vendors charge for shipping absolutely does not cover the cost of shipping. You can get up to $100 pretty easily, and that expense is cold hard cash, as opposed to say a free frag or a gift card towards a frag. That’s just potential lost, as opposed to literal money out of the vendors pocket. So, to Shane’s point, if someone buys a dozen $6 frags then gets shipping for free, not only did Shane take the potential sales hit, he also took the cash hit. Losing this type of “customer” isn’t anything to be concerned with. It’s actually a benefit to your business, and the rest of your customers.

You make some really good points! It almost sounds like "free shipping" shouldn't exist at all.

One piece of the puzzle that hasn't been talked about is the "value" of engagement. R2R is a great platform for vendors to attract people into a thread and get them to talk about your product, which ultimately drives revenue. After all, if people are engaged, they are more likely to make purchases. Additionally, higher engagement keeps the thread visible to the R2R audience and draws in new shoppers. Certainly, businesses in other industries spend money to stay relevant and draw in new customers but this cost is usually baked into the cost of the products. This begs the question of why the costs of the games, prizes, and discounts aren't baked into the overall cost of the products so that they don't risk hurting the vendor.

What do you think about the "value" of engagement?

That's an absurd amount of growth!
Shane @SBB Corals took a look at everything I was doing and suspected my RO/DI operation was not up to par. We Purged the entire system, installed all new membranes, filters and risers. Did a 50 gallon purge of the system and then did a 50% water change in the tank with new super clean RO water. Results started happening almost immediately. Most of the Acro‘s started showing new growth. He also advised changing filters every 90 days and membranes every 2 months based on my RO water usage. Little more expense, but I definitely see the improved results.

@Ben549

Rough estimate, about 150 gallons a month. that’s 60 gal water change, 40 gallons ATO and 50 gallons other. I use it for everything. Not just tank water, but top off water and any cleaning I do for anything related to the tank. When you consider using 150 gallons a month of RO/DI water that is actually about 300+ gallons going through the system.
