With every dangerous endevear we take on, there are risk involved. My chosen profession, flying high performance fighter aircraft, is loaded with risks and I lost a lot of good friends who got to close to the edge. Your son may never lose his desire to ride, but I suspect his respect for the risk side of the equation will change now. He has seen the edge and experienced near death. That thought will always be with him from now on. Its part of what makes us crazy boys turn into smart men. If he continues to ride, I suspect he will be much smarter about it and show good respect for that edge he has seen.
Well said sir!

that is so ******! i would die to ride in a fighter jet, i cannot imagine the rush

It was a great career. My fastest speed was 1750 mph (Mach 2.35) in the F-15 and most intense G loading was 10 Gs. My 20 minutes of glory was downing an Iraqi Soviet built Mig-25 in Operation Southern Watch.

That speed was in a test. They were testing the capabilities of the then, new Patriot SAM and I was one of the high fast flyers. Over 100 fighters and bombers doing everything we could to avoid being targeted by the Patriot batteries. The Patriots won. dang good missile system. Glad it’s ours.

I rode for about 10 years, and definitely tried to talk him into a project car over the bike before he got it. He says he still wants to ride, but we're hoping that fades away! Going to get him a car to work on to keep him occupied more too!
The desire to ride never goes away...2006 CBR1000rr with a kid to worry about changes things. I can't have one because I know how I ride. There is no "slowing down" for me..that doesn't even include the aspects that aren't your fault
