Way to much but you cant take it with you!
Way too much? Nah, I can still get to work and eat actual food. Bills are paid. I spend what I can afford to spend on the things I like, and I happen to like SBB corals.

What sort of things do you have the hydros doing? I’m mostly just interested in monitoring. I’m assuming just PH?
Monitoring and regulating temp, ATO/Kalk feed, dosing trace elements. Changing flow patterns throughout the day.

I was about to say something along those lines. It's all relative to our own financial positions. It would be too much for me too, but it may only be a few cents to you in comparison. We all have different financial positions, and we spend what we feel comfortable spending.

Some would say the $446 we spent this sale was way to much also :)

How are you guys acclimating and dipping Shane’s acros before going into your DT?
Float to temp. Use water from bags and make dipnof KCL (potassium chloride) @2 tablespoons per gallon for 10 minutes. Rinse in fresh SW (Tank water) and drop in.

Can you tell me more about this dip? Not that @SBB Corals needs it but does it help remove pests or does it give acros a boost or something?

I will say this. I make enough that I will never regret my purchases, and I didn't always have that luxury, so every sale I make sure to spread a little bit of my good fortune to others.

I use an IM helio and feel pretty good about temp controller, have AI pumps with the app and kamoer dosing pump allows me to edit from anywhere. I do think that getting a notification if temp got out of range would be beneficial if something failed but I just can’t justify the price of admission for the 1 or 2 features I would use. (Temp and ph monitoring).

I was looking at a used kit somewhere and some guy told me that they are about to release something like an “Aqua IQ” that would do automatic water testing similar to the trident. I searched a bit and didn’t really find anything so I don’t know where he got that info. I suppose if that was available and was quite a bit cheaper than the trident, I might consider getting a setup.

It does both actually. Potassium is a trace element often neglected in reef tanks. I believe it to be partially responsible for waste elimination and energy processing in the polyp. Pests cannot tolerate it, and will get stunned, go dormant, or just die from it.

Awesome that’s exactly what I was looking for. Thanks. Picking some up now.

When I was having trouble keeping my SBB corals alive, Shane told me to stop using the dip I was using and switch to KCL. Used that on the “practice“ corals he sent me. They have been perfect since going in the tank. They still have extreme polyp extension. This is what he uses and now I do. Same as Billy. 2 TBS to 1 gallon of water for 10 minutes.

I use a Helios in conjunction with the Hydros. If the hydros sees the temp go too high, it cuts the power to the Helios. I have the temp probes in two different places in the sump and tank to make sure it's not just reading the sump. The Hydros dosers are made by Kamoer, effectively they're X1's with a different power cable.

I've seen a few posted around R2R and other places that are supposed to be all in one units. Most are Kickstarter ones though. I think the most recent one I saw was Kia something...
