Every salt leaves something to be desiredYou know, every pro out there uses Reef Crystals and adjusts via Calcium reactors or other complex methods. I often wonder why "pro" salt even exists when you see videos from Tidal Gardens, other vendors/farms, etc. using the cheapest salt. I use reef crystals for my phyto cultures.
Are only newbs paying 120 a bucket for "pro" salts?
Usually a lot higher parameters..calcium, alk, magSo what are "pro" salts????
I'm on my second TM Pro bucket, which is about empty. Debating switching only because everyone still is leery of TM.Every salt leaves something to be desired
Edit..lol
You'd be surprised how many major vendors in our hobby grow gorgeous corals like weeds don't chase nor dose those minor elements we were talking about, and just stick to regular water changes with regular old Instant Ocean salt. You know, every pro out there uses Reef Crystals and adjusts via Calcium reactors or other complex methods. Yup. And lower alk. TM Pro is closer to what I run my alk at.Usually a lot higher parameters..calcium, alk, mag
Reef Crystals has high parameters from what I understand, and costs about $40 a bucket. Every year or so, I'll find the 200gallon boxes on sale on amazon for $35, but you can only order three. So, I have all my friends and family order three for me and hope they don't brick up with time hahaUsually a lot higher parameters..calcium, alk, mag
Agreed. Good old maintenance, stability, testing will get you thereYou'd be surprised how many major vendors in our hobby grow gorgeous corals like weeds don't chase nor dose those minor elements we were talking about, and just stick to regular water changes with regular old Instant Ocean salt.
That's really the selling point right there. However, regular old Red Sea salt has alk in that 7.5-8 range.Yup. And lower alk. TM Pro is closer to what I run my alk at.
My point exactly, but they do also have tons of other gear in their sumps. I'm not going to switch to IO anytime soon, I like having the higher calcium/magnesium and lower alk. Just wonder how they came about and if I fall victim to marketing. You'd be surprised how many major vendors in our hobby grow gorgeous corals like weeds don't chase nor dose those minor elements we were talking about, and just stick to regular water changes with regular old Instant Ocean salt.
ExpensiveSo what are "pro" salts????
I just bought the BRS 1.1 because it’s on sale. Waiting for Avast to have a sale to pick up a kalk stirrer. My tank is mostly LPS and i dose Triton core 7 but i want to raise my ph. Im at 8 but trying to bump it up a bitI bought and avast kalk stirrer. Just need to set it up. Gonna use the brs 1.1 to dose it through out the night as That’s when I notice a big dip in my ph. But will prolly dose every hour
A lot of this hobby is simply marketing. For instance, why are skimmer bodies round and not square/rectangular?My point exactly, but they do also have tons of other gear in their sumps. Less angles = less resistanceA lot of this hobby is simply marketing. For instance, why are skimmer bodies round and not square/rectangular?
