Hey Reefers! Let's talk Cynarina!

In our opinion, Cynarina are the most unique out of all of the meat corals! While they typically get overshadowed by the more colorful and high-end Acanthophyllia and Trachyphyllia, they are just as stunning! Don't over look these awesome additions!

Cynarina, or Button Coals as they are occasionally called, are brightly colored, fleshy LPS Corals, which is why they are roped into the "meat coral" category! Most of our Cynarina are from Australia or Indonesia with some distinction between the two. Cynarina from Indo are usually larger and more vibrantly colored. Aussie ones are typically on the smaller side and slightly less colorful. All Cynarina are stunning, no matter where they are from or what they look like, because they have something that makes them absolutely unique on their own!

The meaty flesh of Cynarina is translucent! You can slightly see all the way through the outside flesh to the outer skeleton. It is such a cool sight! Their translucent outer flesh, bubbles up or inflates with water giving them that fleshy appearance. Bright colors of green, red, orange, purple, yellow, and pink light up under actinics and make these LPS corals even more special! Check out even more on these under the radar corals in an awesome article on Reef Builders! HERE

Cynarina are generally considered easy to care for! Given their fragile and clear appearance it might seem like they are sensitive and difficult to care for. Surprisingly they are quite hardy! They do well in a wide variety of reef types. We keep our Cynarina in moderate lighting, however they can also tolerate a wide range of light spectrums. Flow is the most important with Cynarina. Low to moderate flow, anything too much could damage their bouncy flesh! They are also easy going feeders, spot feed them a few times a week with any variety of food and they will thrive in your reef!

Cynarina are a gorgeous addition to a reef tank! We could not recommend one of these beauties enough. They are easy going, non-aggressive LPS corals that are perfect for any level of reefer! Check out our wide selection of Cynarina today! Just click any of our highlights down below!

Thanks for checking out our Saturday Spotlight, & have a great weekend! ~ Corals.com
