@vetteguy53081 ?

My rescue fish Francis (below) is obviously a sailfin but Im not sure what kind. Guy said he was a desjardini but he doesnt look like one to me, but he also doesnt really look like the pacific version either. Just curious as to which version he is! Beautiful fish.

They can be difficult to id when young. Does he have freckles on his face? About how big is he?

About 7 inches tall and 7 inces long. Big boy! And he appears to have them sometimes but other times I look at him he doesnt have them

This is standard, not desjardini
Could use brighter white light intensity to fully confirm

This is a young desjardini

I could be wrong but I thought all the red sea specimens had a well defined purple color around the barb.

nothing like that one, but it does have the same coloring on the back. His colors are pale in my tank for whatever reason (maybe they dont like my lights? Cause he is super fat and healthy). Ill try to get a picture of him under the whites

Generally stress causes this- can be change in light, water quality or intimidation from another fish

Hum he has been trying to tail strike my jeweled moray eel. Maybe he is stressed because the eel is in the tank? No one bullies him, he is the bully and establishing dominance. All my other fish are fine

Be it known - sailfins can be jerks. Tail scalpels are their defense mechanism and you will want to keep an eye on the tang

@vetteguy53081 would a more aggressive tang keep him in line? Was considering a sohal or a clown tang as the final fish. They are just so pretty but I know they are angry AF lol

rarely does that change the behavior and in turn you end up with an additional problem child (fish)

@vetteguy53081 is it possible he is a hybrid between the red sea and regular? His color just keeps shifting. Him this morning
