Just purchased a used tank and the fans are toast. Can find the whole setup, but seems it is discontinued everywhere.
Pulled the fans out and the RS part # is: RDL6015s.
Specifies 12v .11A fan.
Looks like a standard 80mm CPU cooling fan.
I don't see a manufacturer name stamped on the fans. Just
Cooling Fan #1779.
Can anyone tell me who makes these fans for red sea or give me a source to order a couple?
Thanks!

the paired "water cooling" fans in the back left, as you look at the tank from the front?

i picked them up off of amazon for about $50 6 months to a year ago. not super cheap given the materials involved, but the plug and play, time saved and peace of mind about the specs made it worth it to me.

and wouldn't you know it, my replacement fans purchased in august 2019 **** the bed already! i ordered the last official red sea replacement pat i could find on amazon for $40.

i also disassembled the original fans and housing i replaced and for my rsm 250, the fans are labeled RDL6015S.

i have the same 12v DC 0.11 A spec on the label, however my housing measures 60 x 60 x15 mm, so think i'll look for a couple of those and try the diy route, as it looks like this may be a necessity going forward.

i'll let you know if i have any success. please let me know if you find anything too.

Hi! I just purchased a RSM 250 that I pick up this weekend. I know it needs the dual fan in 1 compartment that seems to be sold out everywhere and 2 of the 1781s. Did you end up finding alternative fans? I was even contemplating taking the hood off altogether??

congrats on the purchase, that's how i ended up with mine, though it didn't come with a cooling fans issue.

i threw a multimeter on mine and confirmed power to the fans, which is why i ordered the last one i could find and two fans that matched the size and voltage spec. it looks easy enough to swap out the fans in the housing with a soldering iron, so that was a much cheaper option and it seems like that might be an inevitability.

i have since received the last official red sea fan i could find, but not the two after market fans for the diy project. i think they're coming from china. i tried to plug in the rs replacement and no go. i rechecked the fuse, which was again still intact, and when i plugged it back in, lo and behold the fans came back to life. so it seems like they were fine all along and there may be some corrosion or crud in fuse holder receptacle contact area that i'll look into more if the issue recurs.

thats kind of where i'm at, andi haven't really messed with it any more, but next time the fans quit, i'm going to start trouble shooting there. i should add, my rsm 250 has been retrofitted by the previous owner with LEDs, so i'm pretty reluctant to get too involved with anything electrical going on in the hood. i would definitely recommend keeping the hood on if you can though. not only does it help with any jumpers you might put in there, but i do think it significantly reduces evaporation and ato water to the tune of 50% or more.

good luck with the new rsm 250. if i have any success with the diy fans, i'll post an update.

Thanks for the reply and the tips! Looks like I have no option on the China RSM replacement fans as you have the last originals! Thanks!

lol, sorry. my sordid saga continues, so i'll give an update in case it might help you or someone else with a similar problem. my fan struggles returned after a power outage we suffered for over 24 hours last week.

i started trouble shooting with the fuse again, and that got me some intermittent fan function over the course of the next few days, but the harder i tried to keep it running full time, the less it actually ran. the fan would go off, i'd raise the hood to the first position and it would go back on again. i'd put the hood down, and the fan would stop. this went on over a few days and finally just stopped all together.

in that time, i narrowed down the problem precisely to the jack connection. the male and female receptacle just fit poorly and wouldn't work consistently or at all anymore. mrs. farnsworth even got in on the action and tried to bend the pin inside the receptacle, and not only did that not work, she also damaged it some.

i thought long and hard about cutting the jack off (lol) and hard wiring it, but decided on ordering a separate 12v powersupply with a bunch of jack options, which arrived a few hours ago. that jack seems to fit okay, even on the damaged one and low and behold i know have working cooling fans again.

in the meantime, the separate aftermarket fans have arrived from china, and when i get some time, i'll try to put them in one of the old housings i have and solder the connections to the receptacle.

have you had any luck with your situation? if i come up with a workable solution, i'd be happy to help you out with what i have left to part with.

Good morning., I just purchased a used RSM c-250 . Love this tank . I read all the warnings about how you better be a DIY guy , and how they run warm. I love the canopy and intend on getting it all running like a top . I have one bad ballast , replacement on the way . And 2 of the fans are pretty loud , so I’m going to replace them . I have the hood opened up , and all cleaned up after a 1/2 with my air compressor , q tips , and a paint brush to assist with dust and grime . Looking at other fan options that are in spec . I was thinking about adding a led strip light to the moonlight blues . I have read that they don’t do much on their own . Few other missing parts , the hinge pins , and the plastic fan cover for one side of the hood , which I do want to find . I’m looking forward to the project . Ned
