So i got a royal gramma a month ago and he lives in the rockwork. He darts out to eat and then back into the rocks. He's extremely healthy but too shy for such a beautiful fish.

Is there any way i can encourage him to go out more?

The only aggression he got is from my bicolor blenny which is a bully to every new addition for like a day, then he gets used. So there wouldn't be any problem if he went out.

Hello,

Yes Royal Gramma are naturally shy fish and will always like to stay in rock especially if you have good rock placement. They love to hug onto rock which is why you see him upside down. There really is not a way for him to be removed from what they naturally love to do and be in.

Put him in a betta bowl and you can enjoy him as much as possible.

Mine always comes out to eat, but likes to hang out in the rocks. I could be wrong, but beleive royal grammas prefer lower light. Mine is always out and about before the likes come on at 3pm.
I have noticed that he prefers going out when the flow is off rather than light

I’ve had my royal gramma for about 8 months, it started out that way but after a few weeks it came out and about most of the time. 2-3 times a day he finds a spot in the rock and stays for about an hour. I think they just need to adjust to the tank and their tank mates. It sounds like some take longer than others.
