I have a 43 gallon display tank (about 22-23” cube).

I have a yellow watchman goby with a paired pistol shrimp, two peppermint shrimps, a skunk cleaner shrimp and two clown fish.

Was looking to add a fish that likes being in the middle of the tank.

My goby’s den moves almost daily under the live rock (pistol shrimp never seems to stop) so I’d rather not add another fish that likes the bottom.

The clown fish keep to an upper corner of the tank most the time.

Would a Royal Gamma be an ok addition? (I’ve not had good luck with cardinalfish).

Suggestions on other fish that would potentially work?

I have a royal grama, a cleaner shrimp, a firefish, and a diamond goby and they get along good. I just added two clowns today and I think they will be fine too. However the RG hides a lot so not sure if yours will be out and about a lot.

I think RG is a good choice, but, is a shy rockdweller.
A school of chromis?
A trio of Anthais?
Both favor mid water. IMG_1668.jpeg

I’ve had a royal gramma for almost 2 years. I see him for a few minutes every month. That’s it. He just sticks behind the rocks all day. I’ve heard that some are more active Donita hit and miss.

IME, if you want a basslet, black caps and yellow assessors are more visible, hanging out in the mid tank area.
