Hi all

Anemone was looking like in the picture this for months. Not opening in a round shape. She was with triangular form.. she can move if something bothers her.

And today it appeared puffed and detached from sand bed and floating in the corner.
I tried to gently move her, but she's not responsive to touch.

Any ideas? Might be dead? All other corals are fine.

And do you ever picture what was wrong? I have other two rock flowers.. and they all look fine.
Not sure if they could die because of their age..
No. I'm assuming age-related, as the three I lost (over a period of 6 months) just released and fell into the sand. I have another 6 that are all still doing fine.

This was a wild caught. It was with me for circa 6mo. Maybe she had a long life at the sea bottom before coming to my house.
I think I'm gonna ask my wife to take it out of the tank before it starts to melt

I doubt it has anything to do with age. I am not sure about rock flowers but nems can live longer then us.

I have lost one at random along the way as well.

Rock flowers can also grow pretty large actually. Just don’t see the really big ones often come in.

It doesn’t look happy, but nowhere near dead. No need to remove it. An established tank can handle it even if it were to die.
I came back home from work and I'm seeing she is responsive. She retracts slowly if touched.
I will leave her there in a place with less light and flow as She is still not attached anymore.

Let's see what happens in a couple days.
If she dies, my crab would not complain about it.
It is showing zero signs of imminent death. Its mouth is closed tight. A dying anemone will have a gaping mouth and then begin to spill its guts.

Hey
Thanks everybody for your contribution.
It seems that she was having a bad day and decided to walk around.
Now she is attached to the glass again and very alive.
Awesome!

Who had a reef tank 80 years ago do not believe everything you read online.

hmm I don't think that is how scientists decide the lifespan of such things. Probably more looking at the DNA or cells or whoozits.. or whatzits... they have life spans estimated for extinct animals after all..
