Hi everyone!
I have a 75 gallon freshwater tank, and am soon going to be moving into an upstairs apartment unit. I am hoping to take the tank with me, but the owner/property managers are requiring me to have a renters insurance policy that covers the tank if anything were to happen to it, which makes sense. They want to see IN WRITING somewhere in the policy that it is covered.
I am located in central California and currently am with State Farm. I spoke to my agent a few days ago and was told they will not cover water damage from the tank because they consider it “pet damage”, even though I’ve heard most insurances don’t consider it that way. My policy with them currently covers $25,000 personal and $300,000 liability. I really don’t know what kind of damage this tank could cause, especially being in an upstairs unit.
Is there anyone here in California who currently has a policy that, IN WRITING, protects all fish tank water damage, regardless of the reason it breaks? It would help me out SO much! My fiancé and I have raised these fish for close to 7 years and couldn’t imagine having to leave them behind. Sorry for such a long post. Any help/advice would be super appreciated!
