Hi reefer's

So few weeks ago i added a red sea reefmat 500 on my reefer 300 v2 .
But whenever the reefmat is getting clogged and water lever rises inside the reefmat the standart level in my return pump chapber drop's and this is activating my ATO .
As a result i went from 1.026 to 1.024 in about 2 weeks time ...
Not so sure if i can do anything about that .
As i found some information in a other topic about this i could wait until the reefmat is at is max level and place the ATO down to that level inside the return pump chamber . But that will eventualy raise salinity ?

Does anyone had this problem and did u find a solution ?

Thanks in advance

I use roller mats and experience this all the time. There are many solutions. You could reduce your return flow, divert some of the overflow to bypass the roller, or change your ATO height.
Good luck

so correct me if i am wrong ,
lowering the ato sensor in the return pump section to the lowest point it could get before the rollermat sensor goes off , as a result the water level in the return section goes back up .

is this the correct way of thinking ?

It might take some work but you can do it.

Do some reading as this is very common with roller filter setups. You either need to raise or lower the ato sensor to your liking.

If you adjust the mat advance rate of your reefmat to the lowest setting the ato issue should go away.

ohn , that makes the filter chamber in the roller always full ? right ?
It will reduce the water level fluctuation inside and in the overflow. Which will cause the ato to turn on less or not at all.
There is a setting lower than what i put in the screen shot which may make a good starting point (doesn't for me since i run 2 on the same system at max siphons)

I have the same tank and I'm either very lucky and placed the ato sensor correctly or having the mat advance setting at the smallest amount like @C_AWOL suggested is the trick. I'm using a tunze ato but can't imagine that makes any difference. I haven't had any issues with salinity staying consistent.

It all comes out in the wash. It doesn't matter.

Your sump water level will fluctuate momentarily but at the end of the day the total amount of water is regulated by the ATO.

That doesn’t seem to be the case for the OP, or others that are experiencing this issue….

I had to play with my return flow and downspout for a few days before I dialed mine in. I have my advance set to 4” and I don’t have any swings. Same tank, 300xl G2 with a reefmat 500 using the Red Sea ATO set to the lowest spot. My gang valve is closed off way more than it was with the socks, that’s for sure.

Edit. I’m also have the reefmat on the legs, not hanging on the side panel of the sump. Not sure that makes a difference.

so i been using it for a week or so and haven’t really played with the flow and height. But i did set my fleece to the lowest setting at 0.2-0.4 and that kind of stabilizes the level from fluctuating too much. I will try some other thing tomorrow and see what happens.
