Hello recently started up a 60G reef tank, it’s going through the brown algae diatom phase. Would it be a good idea to do a water change ? Nitrites are up but ammonia is low about 0ppm I do have live stock in the stock.

I would grab a beer, chill, and give it some time. I think a reef needs to go through these phases and if you have no livestock, you have no worry.

Any form of growth you can see confirms a complete cycle, you began reefing on the right date. Growths either indicate pre cycled materials or enough time underwater for non cycled ones.
