Started dosing ab+ 3 weeks ago daily per instructions. My No3 is 2.5ppm and Po4 is at 0.03. I am starting to develop a a little cyano on a tile which has max flow hitting it and a tiny but on some rocks. Is anyone experience this with ab+ dosage? Has anyone backed off the dose to improve it?

I was doing 1/2 doses for 4 weeks. Tank is 2 year old. Never had cyano until now. Cyano was on glass and sand...not on live rock. I did research and believe it is the aminos in ab. I stopped dosing a week ago after a water change and no cyano

I started about 2.5 weeks ago with the recommended dose and had some cyano pop up but it went away on it's own and I haven't seen it for a few days now. We will see if it pops up again but I don't plan on making any adjustments in dosing just yet.

There are certain nutrients that "pest algae" are able to utilize the easiest, and certain kinds of coral food and aminos are at the top of the list. That's not to say that they WILL feed pest algae, just that they easily can. At least that's my understanding.

Im going to remove the 3 inch disc and peroxide dip to remove is and then place it back in the tank to see if it begins to develop again.

I used ab+ at the recommended dosage and got red cyano in spots after about 2-3 weeks. I stopped using the product and those spots are still stubborn cyano spots but it did get better once i stopped dosing. I've heard this from a few people as well.

Any food added will cause cyano or other bad things. I don’t care what the makers say it’s gonna happen we are adding nutrients that’s just the way it works. That being said I was getting a slight cyano outbreak and I mean slight so I cut back from 10ml a day to 10ml every other day and no cyano issues. The pros out weight the cons for me I am getting killer color on my Sps now just got a find a good balance. It’s nowhere near as bad as what reef roids will do. I have been using it since it was released in February

I don’t think Reef Energy can be blamed for causing Cyanobacteria, unless to much is being used, there are so many variables in different tanks and the way there maintained.

Ive used a reef energy including the new plus in both my systems, and mixed with reef roids, and I’ve never had Cyanobacteria in either system.

Its just a tool to help provide corals with their additional nutritional requirements and any doses need to be adjusted according to the tank requirement, not just added necessarily as per the instructions which are just a guide.

I don’t add it every day because it’s not needed, I dose a mixture of reef energy and reef roids (mixed together) once a week and that’s it.

Do you spot feed it or broadcast it?

I broadcast feed it, basically I mix it together once a week and then just pour it into the tank. With the large system I turn the return pump down so the water stays in the tank for about 30 minutes or so.

I was doing daily dosing (per bottle) on my 210 gal and had cyano popping up. I’ve been dosing since it came out in February/March. Currently doing ChemiClean treatment now...didn’t really think about the RE contributing to it. As others have stated though, corals look great so seems to be worth it. Will dial back a bit after I'm done with CC treatment and see if it stays away.

Very interesting I just recently got a little cyano but I've been dosing aminos acropower to be exact I'll have to cut back a little bit this is very helpful to know I had no idea of that aminos were linked to cyano I'm going to cut back on them and see what happens thanks for the great info

Did reducing acropower do the trick for you?

I've been battling cyano for a few months now. Going to cut out the ab+ for awhile and see what happens. I'm only lightly stocked coral wise so prob not consuming all the ab+

Yes- stop A/B and add a pouch of chemipure elite which will keep po4 and no3 in check and polish water,
Siphon as much as you can, blow the rest loose and siphon or net the suspended matter
Add 1.5ml of liquid bacteria daily per 10 gallons and add 1ml of hydrogen peroxide per 10 gallons at night for 10 days
Clean filters daily
Adding some Nassarius , trochus and cerith snails plus a few blue leg hermits will help

this will 100% fix your issue. I've been using ab+ on and off for over a year now. cut back on dosing. or stop all together.

Another 100 fix here as well, Just finished this routine with excellent white sand results.
Wiped out the Cyano.
Nice.
