Starting up a new build thread for my newest system
redsea reefer xl200 build
radion xr15 blue g5
Bubble magus 3ex skimmer
Jebao dosing pump
13 watt uv
Phosphate / carbon reactor
Swapped out filter sock for filter cup (redsea)
(X2) innovative marine wave link pumps ( med ) set on pulse mode
53 gallons total water volume ( empty ) I’m at around 45 / 48 gallons (approx)
3d printed skimmer riser along with the doing pump shelf
mostly Marco rock and maybe 2 pieces of Carib sea reef saver base rock
30lbs of Carib sea course sand (I believe fiji pink)
acrylic dowels for aqua scape along with regular super glue. Drilled the rock and installed multiple dowels into each rock that needed the extra support. Some of the sections have the heavier more unbalanced rocks placed up high so I wanted to make sure I had all the support I could get.
cycled using prodbio bacteria along with aqua forest cycle bacteria. Tank had zero ammonia and nitrites within 7 days after adding bacteria. Dry rock was soaked for a few days before I had the tank running.
kept bacteria fed with seachem reef trace 2 part amino acid supplements. I feed the bacteria with the vitamin / amino heavy bottle .
I now have a small torch garden being acclimated to the lighting schedule I have set for this system. The par values are a bit on the higher side because I will be keeping sps in this system.
their is a button scoly that is on the larger side for sure! I also have a lobo on the left hand side that has already been shifting colors a lot since I took this picture.
I also have a bernardopora.
I’m feeding all of them baby brine shrimp that I hatch fresh along with amino acids and benepets
amino acids used
Seachem 2 part trace and amino acid formula
acropower
aquaforest AF GROWTH BOOST POWDER
Coral particulate foods
Benepets
zooplankton seachem
reef roids ( not too often but I sometimes will blend this into the coral food mixture I make myself )
polyp booster
redsea A+B
multiple foods from the brightwell line
I enjoy mixing it up when it comes to feeding. I try to keep a good variety on hand at all times for the corals. I enjoy experimenting a bit when it comes to feeding / mixing some foods together. I will typically make a coral food mixture packed with particulate foods crushed lps pellets and amino acids added into the mix as well. I blend it up with a coffee froth. I usually will feed smaller amounts multiple times a night when I am feeding the corals. I just try to simulate what I feel it would be like in nature so I like to do things that way. It probably doesn’t really make any difference it’s just somthing I enjoy doing.
I grow phyto cultures myself along with pods that originally were purchased through pod your reef
baby brine shrimp 1-2 days old at most. I hatch new eggs daily as of now. I soak them in garlic and vitamin c for a few hours before I feed. I’ve gotten great color and health results in my fish for years doing it this way the corals that eat the shrimp always have very good reactions + coloration after doing this for a period of time also.
( I do this so often now mostly because I was sent a free mandarin goby with an order of corals I purchased online and I really wanted to give it a good life. I’d feel terrible just letting it starve so I started culturing pods / phytoplankton / baby brine shrimp) I feed the mandarin goby the brine shrimp using a method I read about originally on reef builders. I basically have a cup with a mesh top covering it tightly hidden behind the rock scape by his little hole he made back there and he can sit on top of that mesh screen and pick out the brine shrimp as the swim upward towards the light. I just refill the cup once a day or so and that usually gives him enough to have a constant supply. I also replenish pod cultures in the tank because I see him picking all day long so I know he’s running through those pods in there like nobody’s business! Lol
I have two cardinals one bangai and one pajama
6 line wrasse
Mandarin goby ( like I said above not at all planned. He was a surprise guest sent in with a box of corals.) if worst comes to worst I do have mature systems currently running in my house. I figured since I culture my own pods / phyto I’d give this tank a shot. He eats very well to say the least.
About 14 snails maybe 15 / 16 not exactly sure at the moment.
0 hermit crabs as of now. Might add later on if I feel the system can use the extra clean up help
( I have avoided hermits for the past 2 systems I set up. I’m not a huge fan of them climbing all over the expensive torch corals and my sps. Not saying they will kill the corals or anything like that, because I’ve personally never experienced that.) it’s just something I’ve been testing out.
CORALS ON THE WAY
Rose bta- adding before the tank is jam packed with coral so I don’t have to stress about any warfare happening while it’s moving around.
Og purple urkel chalice
Jf slow burn montipora
Tck insane long tentacle gold torch ( indo )
jf aqua man montipora
once the new anemone is settled into this system I will eventually get a pair of traditional orange clowns and hopefully they will pair up. I’d like to start breeding them. I used to breed a nice pair I had a while back. It was a midnight clownfish and an orange and that was always super cool. I’d like to get to experience that again . If I can get to that point I will start a culture of rotifers as well which won’t be to difficult since I have all of the phyto and everything going already. The only reason I’m getting the classic clownfish is because just based off of my own past experiences they seemed to be fairly gentle with the anemones. Maroons / tomato / carkii were all very abusive to I’m going to try to avoid all of that drama if possible. I’d like to aqua culture the rose anemones down the road and fill a tank with just them later on when that time comes.
you know how it is lol the plans never stop when your into this hobby!
thanks for checking this out to anyone who stopped by! I will update when the new corals arrive !
thanks everyone happy reefing!
