This morning, I noticed that my Duncan frag seems to have some sort of algae growing on its base and lower skeleton. Is this red Cyano? Will it harm my Duncan? How can I remove it? I tried blowing it off with a turkey baster but it seemed pretty snug

Soft bristle toothbrush to gently scrape off.

Is it anywhere else in your tank?
I added new dry rock to my rear chamber (AIO) a week ago and it seems to have bloomed since then. I originally thought the red stuff was diatoms from the extra silicates but now I believe it is all Cyano. As you can see, there is plenty in my sand bed, but no other corals are affected yet.

I think you have a little bit of diatoms and some cyano. With both patience, manual removal and making sure that you balance out nutrients is important. But I would definitely brush the Chano off the Duncan. It looks healthy right now but over time it could cause tissue recession. Duncans are super hardy so it’ll likely be just fine.

Thank you, I’ll try to brush it off ASAP and do a 10% water change. This Duncan is very healthy as his flesh goes all the way down to the base of the skeleton. I want to keep it that way so he starts growing new polyps.

Manual removal, increasing flow.

Here is a nice write up:
