Recommend me a lens for Canon 40D

I will be getting a Cannon 40D and was wondering if you guys could recommend me a lens for it. I'm looking to take pictures of corals. Mainly close-ups.

and another lens for taking regular portrait pictures.

Any help would greatly be appreciated!

i'd do the canon 100 mm f2.8, or the tamron 90 mm f2.8

haven't read the threads listed (have probably read them/been involved in the past, but not today), but am sure they're the ones recommended. they're usually the cream that floats to the top

I may be selling my 100 canon 2.8. I'd need to check it to make sure its good and clean though though. You can peruse the sell forum on potn (don't know the url). It has a super active selling forum for canon users. I use it a lot, but don't plan on keeping it much longer--getting more into portrait lenses.
