My google king fu isn’t what it used to be. I recently added ozone into my skimmer until I can persuade someone here to help me with a diy ozone reactor. I was going to print up a carbon media holder to sit on top of the skimmer but while trying to get measurements and such I thought to myself….what would be the harm in modifying my old unused gear from a recirculating co2 scrubber? Basically, I have a line ran to an attic gable vent for a fresh air intake . I printed a tee for this line with one end going to an ozone generator (which then goes to one input on my skimmer silencer) and the other end to the second input on my skimmer silencer. What I was thinking, unless for some reason this is a bad idea, was to use my old scrubber solenoids and ball valve to proportionally mix fresh (controlled ozone) and recirculated air within the skimmer. So half recirculating co2 scrubber setup, minus the co2 scrubbing media and reactor and the other half being fresh/ controlled ozone. I tried searching but the only things I found were either non-recirculating or just dryers. Just thinking out loud….but if there’s any reason this wouldn’t work, or is a very bad idea, don’t be shy. My current thought process with this is that it could increase the ozone/air/water contact time and possibly reduce some escaping ozone. It’s not a pressurized reactor and wouldn’t compare at all, but wondering if it would be any improvement over just plain old ozone in a skimmer?

If I remember correctly, @Randy Holmes-Farley wasn’t too keen on recirculating the air discharge from a skimmer. I’m curious though if 1/2 the skimmer intake is always fresh/controlled ozone (never closed off), and the other half of the skimmer intake is 100% fresh air half of the time but say 50/50 recirculated ozone/fresh air when the ozone generator is on (say 15 minutes per hour, plus another 15 minutes after the ozone generator is off). Again, just pulling things out of thin air and thinking out loud. Just curious if this method might increase the ozone dwell time in a skimmer and reduce the release of ozone into the home. I know it wouldn’t compare to a pressurized reactor with a carbon post filter.

I think I might just throw this together and give it a go. Maybe this weekend. Just to see how it compares to how it’s been running to see if there’s any noticeable issues.
