We ordered about 12 corals from WWC last week.
Today I noticed aiptasia on one of the lords.
WWC's response is that it is past the 5 day warranty, so they will do nothing about it. They said sorry for the "straggler", and recommended that I try to salvage the coral from the frag. No sir, I threw the whole thing away.

Is this a common thing from them? I would expect them to be more.... surprised? supportive? freaking out? It seems they are treating it like it's just business as usual instead of a serious problem with their process or cleanliness.

Am I overreacting? I'd like a premium coral facility to treat sending aiptasia to a customer as a bigger deal.

I'm sure most of there stuff is good. They are pretty big. Sometimes mistakes happen. My recommendation, don't buy corals online. I've done it like 2 times over the past like 15 years and it's never been a good experience. I like to see what I'm buying so most of my stuff is from local people and shows. Plus it's cheaper and a lot of the photos are enlarged and slightly edited or taken under very blue lights with orange filters so nope I will not do it again unless it's a really good deal

Also if you threw the frag away that's definitely an over reaction and very wasteful. You could have just taken the frag off the plug and grabbed some baking soda, boiling water, lime juice or whatever and killed the aptasia. You could just scrape it off with a razor. It's on a frag not on a big rock or something hard to get off. This would have taken like a few minutes, but you threw away the whole coral?

Ok, I'm learning now then. I figured aiptasia was a big enough risk due to its ability to spread so easily that I should not mess with the frag and expect to get all of it successfully.

Just take it in stride and kill it next time. You’re going to probably get aiptasia at some point anyway. You can totally keep them at bay with Klein’s butterfly fish. Bubble algae is another one you’ll probably get.

I am gonna say something and some may not like it but it is what it is you threw your money out the window. They charge way too much especially when there are just as nice places out there. Second why did you throw it away smh kill that sucker don’t throw it away smh. Third I’ll show you an aiptasia problem of night mare per portion lol I ordered nudis and problem solved.

I had an unpleasant experience with them too a few years ago when trying my first higher end sps. I ended up with white bugs from the sps I bought from them literally the only thing added to the tank for over 6 months and within a week after adding also sps went downhill and my tank took went through a rough spot.

But honestly you could have pooped that frag off the plug and glued to a new plug instead of tossing the coral. I always try to replace frag plugs on new corals if possible.

Yes they spread but as long you thoroughly remove the whole aptasia and rinse it off you would be fine. I could understand a rock that's full of them with a few undesirable corals but a brand new frag on a plug is a simple thing to treat. Sucks you lost your coral. Maybe grab it from the trash and put it back in the water if this recent?

I only order during there massive sales, and I find that like ich aptasia is something that will come and be in your tank and you just keep it at bay. It's as easy as pulling the rock or frag its on and using a razor and tweezers and scrap it off. The fact you threw away a living organism is WAY to extreme of a reaction. would you throw away your tank if you got alage in it? If its not to late get that coral back in water and relax a little. scrap it off and you'll be okay, or seclude it to the corner of your tank and it wont spread just in case. So sad if you threw it away, I know those corals arent cheap either.

Also, they are a massive coral farm there is no way you expect them to catch everything, do you? It is your own responsibility to inspect, dip, and assess your new corals and fix what you don't like.

Obviously I don't want to throw away coral... not because of the money (this was part of a cheap lord 3 pack), but because it's living and I want it to thrive. That's the reason we do this right?

It was a risk assessment decision (that I'm learning from).

Regardless of my failures, I do think that WWC has failed here, and I won't be buying from them again.
