Hey there, I wonder if anybody here really measured with ICP how much trace minerals are consumed by your tanks.
Does anybody checked it?

I would love to know what else is really used apart of strontium and iron, especially in tanks run without macroalgae (but these with algae would be interesting as well).

Well I use reef moonshiners and send an ICP every 30 days, some months I have to make some minor adjustments. I don’t want to start the ICP accuracy argument, it works for me.

Short story is the ICP changes monthly, not sure what you are looking for but don’t dose anything you don’t test for, I use the trends to help make my dosing correction decisions.

That's effectively what the Reef Moonshiners program does. Or that's how I think about it. Your question is, how much trace elements are consumed by your tank, over time. Only way to do that is measurements over multiple points of time, coupled with fixed additions of elements between measurements. Only one subtle detail, I don't think my tank consumes a fixed amount of elements. My corals are growing (assume they need more the bigger they get), there are events which may cause them to react badly and close up, and sometimes things are removed. Thus, my assumption is rate of consumption can change over time. And it's about how to monitor and react.

Im not convinced strontium dosing is of any value, but I know that’s not what you asked.

I’ve carefully tracked some elements, such as iodine and silicate, but as noted, many folks have worked to track many others.

The two harder to answer questions are how accurate are the tests, and even assuming perfect accuracy, what should the target levels be.

Lasse did a really detailed tracking element trends over years.
what accumuated and what depleted.

Silicon Red point - last WC (80 %) was done 3 days before 2018-01-17 The reason for this WC was to bring down the Silicon concentrations, The source was Sera Siporax which was removed a week before. The value now is a little to high - around 900 ppb the last (not shown test) May be a indicator for a WC in the future

I also dose rubidium but have that analysed at Oceamo. Between 150-200 pbb

I´ll think that these graphs will crash some myths.

This video show how the aquarium have developed during the same time
