*sigh*….
……….

This is long but any suggestions are so so so appreciated. Pity is also welcome. A stern tsk tsk also acceptable.

Welp. My well meaning sister just tank sat for me for almost a month while I was on vacation in Japan. I just arrived home to the most odd algae buildup on the glass on the inside of my tank. Algae that my mag cleaner did nothing to remove.
Upon closer, magnified inspection I can see THOUSANDS of tiny scratches on the inside of my acrylic 200 gallon Red Sea 750xxl reefer. They aren’t really visible to the point of me having a full mental breakdown except the part where I am now struggling with algae growing in the tiny hairlike scratches ALL. OVER. MY. TANK.
Turns out, my sweet, loving sister. Who I love. Who was just trying to help (which I now a repeat a thousands times in head to stay calm)

I’ve got my trident &a3 apex pro controller system and my automatic dosing so I figured it was safe enough to leave my tank with her even though she is unfamiliar with the hobby.
What I did not expect was her to go the extra mile and try to clean my tank glass. i told her not to fuss with anything, just stay at my place and keep an eye out. Little did I know she wanted to be extra helpful but didn’t understand about my cleaner mag (my mistake) and got up on a step ladder, dove right into my tank and used a retractable razor to scrape the inside acrylic of my tank clean.
Every. Single. Day. For 22 days.

Soooooooo. Now I have a gigantic tank with a billion hairline scratches with algae determined to grow in them.

I know this is a lost cause. But any advice how to mitigate this? I don’t really want to refinish the glass as my tank is a fully autonomous reef after all these years and I’m not comfortable messing with it to the point of draining. I doubt I could even get most of my corals out. But I’m open to ideas.

I know the scratches are here to stay but is there perhaps a cleaner mag anyone can recommend that is SO strong it will be able to get into the scratches? So far nothing has worked. I’m willing to go big when it comes to cleaner mags. I have a giant tank with about 25-30k invested in that I can’t even see into right now.

Thanks and as always, I love you all you beautiful mad geniuses.

Dude, you can buff out scratches in a wet acrylic tank (wave concept even have an electric waterproof tool to do the job).

Basically you use a series of sand paper (becoming finer as you go); you will probably want to practice this first before committing to the DT as it will look worse before it looks better. But have seen plenty of videos walking through the process with outstanding end results (brand new).

If you didnt feel comfortable doing it yourself i'm fairly sure you could find a maintenance firm willing to do it for you.
