Hi all - planning out a 64x29x24 build and deciding between Radion + some lightbars for fill light or all Orphek iCons. I used an Orphek Atlantik on my last tank and the light was good but hated the app. Curious to try Radions this time around for the color and ease of use/programming. This will be an SPS dominated mixed reef and I want future proofing for grow in/shadowing.

What would you go with between 4x Orpheks or 3x Radions and 2x lightbars (probably Reefbrite or Quanta)? The below is drawn to scale to illustrate layout (light blue is tank area)

If you're spending 4k anyway why not just get 4 Radions and turn them 90 degrees? That's what I'm using over a 72x30 footprint and they light it up very well.

I personally like the orpheks, they are a good price and always upgradable. I have run both on my systems and seen better results with the orpheks. I like the fact you can open them up and change out parts to upgrade to their newest version.

Any shading with this if you have large SPS colonies? That was my main concern with running just radions with this footprint versus more blanket coverage with Orphek

Id go orphek. Love the looks and the performance. The ability to upgrade vs replacing the entire light is another excellent selling point for me.

I never worry about my light program working with my orphek like many radion users have frustrating issues with the möbius programming.

Know what these tank dimensions are? 2nd pic looks like a lot of disco ball on the sand maybe due to lower mounting height? Sweet tanks though.
No

I just DDGd for Orpheks over long tanks

Re: disco. I know of a few workarounds. Height. Diffuser. Lenses. Paneled lights, unless the LEDs are almost touching, is going to have that.

I have two ATI Stratons for my 120cm tank. We shall see when they get hung whether there's a problem or not. From all of the videos I watched when they came out, it was nonexistent, the closest to T5 diffused light from LEDs. Seafriendly Reef really liked them at the time

I only have one larger colony and I just switched everything to a new tank but I'm not having any issues with shading there and I don't forsee any based on what it looks like now. That could change in the future though.

Orphek fixtures have disco. All LEDs with that same design will have disco.

The Radion spread is some of the best out there

If you decide to go with the Orphek Atlantik Icons, you may want to try out 3 first.

I currently have a 48" x 24" x 24" SPS dominant tank with 2 of them oriented lengthwise (e.g. left to right ... like this: - - ). They are mounted 14" above the water, running at 60%, and provide plenty of PAR.

I'm currently in the process of upgrading to a 60" x 30" x 24" tank, and plan to add a 3rd Atlantik Icon, orienting them width-wise (e.g. front to back ... like this: | | | ) ... which should be plenty of spread and PAR for SPS.

In a nutshell, it would keep $935 in your pocket for other gear.

And, if you decide you really want to blast your SPS ... or have such insane growth and shadowing a year or two from now that want/need more intense coverage ... you could always add a 4th icon in the future if/when you really need it.

Just something to consider...

I’m a fan of Orpheks, they grow corals well and they are well built lights. My new 8’ x 30” tank is a combination of Atlantiks and OR barsz I like that they are designed for high mounting heights vs most other lights which are designed for around a 9” height
