I was just wondering what type of setting everyone is using. Yes I understand schedule %, and the setting vary depends on types of corals in the tank… I have Red Sea 425XL G2 with Radion G6 - XR30 Pro x2 with their mounting brackets. I have Zoas on ground level and leather on the mid section and SPS on high top area with schedule 40%. My tank is only 4 months old and my SPS is only 2 weeks old since I placed in my tank. I rented the machine to measure PAR, and it was significantly lower than I expected. I tried to adjust to where I get close to 450-500 par on my upper level and I had to increase to schedule 90%. Does it sound about right? But then my ground level will be close to 290-350 for zoas… what do you guys say? Any inputs are really appreciated. This is huge learning curve for me especially as a new reefer.

Shocked you got par that high.. I’m running a XR 15 over a 60 gal cube and growing Sps just fine! I’d guess my par is about 100 haha! These lights put out pur and we can’t measure that accurately.. just from my experience I’d let the corals tell you if their happy or not.. if I went off par readings of my light I shouldn’t be able to keep Sps.. go figure!

I have 2 XR30s above my 425XL. Run schedule at 95% on ab. What’s important is the level you run your whites at. I’m running my at 55% max. Gets above 500 par at the top of my aquarium

What are you getting on the sandbed? Is it mixed reef? It's always hard to find light and flow balance in a mixed reef.

What template are you running? The par map should b capable of sps. I have 2 x XR15 g5 ab+ template 90% on my mixed reef. Redseaxl300 and its moving along.
We are the same but I'm at 100%. Did you tweak your white up at all? I've left mine stock AB.

Mixed reefs are hard to balance light and flow. Your scape ledges might be to low for mixed reef balance. My SPS are past the upper 3rd of the tank not far below the water line. This way they get the par they need while the corals at the bottom get low to low moderate par. My mid tank area is 250 par but bottom is 75 to 175.

You have a beautiful tank. You picked good lights but they certainly aren't the par monsters we were told unless you run them at the high level intensity as you discovered. The G6 has good spread though so it's better at avoiding hot spots. You will want to start off at lower intensity and slowly ramp up to let the corals acclimate. Depending on the corals you choose try for 75 to 175 on the sand. Maybe 150 to 250 mid tank and 300 to 450 for your upper third.

SPS coral in a 4 month tank will be quite difficult to sustain unless you are a very experienced reefer. The tank is unstable most of the first year and various ugly phases will challenge you as the tank matures but you are off to a good start with a nice set up.

125 to 150 on the sand bed.
