I have been trying to eradicate some algae recently. Hair algae on the back glass and red cyano(?) I think, on the sand. Most of my zoas/shrooms haven't been happy. Some of my sps are growing slower, lost some tissue on two frags. I started dosing code b cause my alk was a little low. I'm going to continue water changes, and i just got new cartridges for RO unit and now gfo..
So I bought and set up a gfo reactor. It's been a long time since I have used one, any helpful tips from your experience?
I added 1.5" inches of media to the reactor. I didn't wanna over do it. And I have the surface of it vibrating/tumbling slowly. Is that enough? When and how will I know when to change it out? I tested my phosphate but then noticed the test kit was expired, so I'm waiting for a new one. Also quick question, will a UV sterilizer damage a pump next to it when it's on? And Dosing, bottles says alk/Ca- 20ml for my system every 2 days. Mag at 25ml per 2 days . I set my doser for everyday- alk/ca 10ml Mg 12ml. Will this suffice or should I ease up on it? I just worry of overdosing and over think some things.

Thanks

I would not run GFO without testing Phosphate daily GFO can strip all Phosphates quickly. Also I would not dose anything you are not testing for. Overdose is a lot easier if you don't know how much to add or remove.
