I have a decent size Mandarin in one of my quarantine tanks. It's actually in my invert qt and I've let it get good and nasty (hair algae growing all over the place). It was full of munid isopods. He has been in there since the first week of November and has put a hurting on the visible numbers. I plan to stick him in my 75 but I'm not really sure how long I should quarantine him. The tank he is in now is a 20 gallon frag tank. He seems to be healthy with no sign of disease but I don't want to chance it. I'm willing to leave him isolated as I do not want to introduce disease in my disease free display.

@Jeeper seems to me that you've already had this guy quarantined for at least 30 days, with no signs of illness and you've accomplished the task of feeding this guy for as long.

In my opinion, as long as there is a good food source in your 75 you should be good to go.

The other options you have at this point would be a fresh water dip to check for any hard to see parasites. Of course you could run some meds just for peace of mind.

But just Incase my opinion is of the mark I'll call in reinforcement

I'm a complete fan of dips, but why medicated a fish that you don't know is sick? I don't really like the thought of that... just personal preference!

Some folks are pro preventative treatments, some aren't. I personally don't do it myself.

Waiting for the signs of disease/parasite to show also has risks of being caught to late, infecting the rest of the tank resulting in a fallow period of 78 days, or the cost of meds and still losing the fish.

It's all in how you reef!

I treat everything with general cure and cupramine. Exception being this fish. I just don't think it would live through my normal QT process. I lost a wrasse the other day that I think was copper sensitive. I moved him into another tank but he had quit eating several days before the move and died in the unmedicated tank after 3 days of not eating. I had brought my levels up super slow and a yellow wrasse in the cupramine tank is doing fine eating like a pig. Just fragile fish sometimes.

I'm mainly just worried about cryptocaryon. Anything else would kill it in short order but crypto could hide from me. I'm going to hit him with prazi... The metro in the general cure would not be good for the snails.

How about doing Tank Transfer method , as much of a PITA as it is, so much better for the fish .

I don't have the tanks right now but I may buy a couple 5 gal and run him through after the rest of my fish are through treatment.
