This is why you want to quarantine your Cheato before added it to the main tank:

Sorry, I mean where you got it originally. I was afraid that you bought some and the seller gave you aptasia invested cheato.
No worries, I have a pretty bad aiptasia problem in the main tank. Most likely from something that was added. Be it the CUC, Cheato, a single batch of Corals, or it was on the Live Rock out of the keys.

I added some Berghia a few days ago in the main tank. I'm got the refugium all cleaned out & hopefully, I can get some Berghia added in this container to clear it out if they reproduce.

Why are you quarantining something that came out of your tank?

@BetteMidler I think part of the confusion you are hearing in these responses is a slight misalignment between the statements made in your original post about the need to quarantine cheato versus the purpose you state for the steps you are taking.

The primary purpose of quarantine is to prevent "pests" and other nuisance/infectious critters from entering your main aquarium/display tank.

If we are interpreting your statement properly, you are saying the cheato that is the subject of this quarantine is from your main aquarium/display tank and your goal is to "quarantine it" and return it to your main aquarium/display tank. If we are understanding your steps correctly then those activities have no meaningful benefit because the pests for that you would want a quarantine to eliminate are already in your aquarium. Your quarantine steps would only address the pests present on the cheato while doing nothing for the same pests that are present / established in your aquarium.

I wonder if the misalignment is sourced from the belief that these pests only exist in the cheato. If that is the belief, unfortunately, that is not true. Those pests may "thrive" in your cheato but they certainly also exist in your aquarium. This is because either the pests were introduced from the cheato or the cheato became infested once it was put into your refugium.

I hope that clears things up for you and others.

The purpose wasn't to cause confusion. I would hope people would simply understand that there may be a need to check your macro algae prior to introduction to another system. Something like this could very well come from a vendor, another reefer, etc..
