Hi all,
I have been wanting to buy a purple tang for some time now, and i was wondering what you guys think is a fair price for a small specimen around 3 inches. It seems to be an absolutely captivating fish and I know ill get it at some point, but I'd rather not empty my wallet completely

From a retailer, you can expect anywhere from $130-$160, but if you cruise the forum, there may be another user looking to rehome one. Good Luck!

I usually see them at about $100-$150, I’ve never personally bought one myself.

fair price is always base on what your willing to spend. Now most fish have comparable prices unlike corals that jump up and down. Personally if you want a fish and is willing to pay the price then its a fair price. Just have an idea of much you are willing to pay and try to find it in that range. I know when I setup my 36g tank I wanted a bubble tip nem. I had a price in mind that I wanted to pay for it and I went to 4 different LFS and none had one in that range. I then went to RAP-NY and went to 5 different booths until I found one in the price range I was willing to pay

Www.Nyaquatic.com has them best price I've seen online. I've heard good things about them but I've never ordered personally from them.

Average I would say $100-$125.

It also depends on the condition of the fish, like if it were to have ripped fins it will usually have $30 knocked off the price, or if the fish color is dull.
