So has anyone every been able to keep a purple reef lobster that didn't make a meal of their fish. My wife keeps trying to buy one for my tank but I keep telling her it will eat her coral beauty angel.

I've had one for the better part of 7 years now... he's been in 4 different tanks and never once have I suspected him of making dinner out of one of my fish. Of course, all have their own personality, but for what it's worth, I'd buy another one. Honestly though, in a larger tank, you might as well take a $20 bill, roll it up and then shove it under all your rocks.

In my 90 with heavy rock work, I hardly ever saw the critter. Now with that same rock work in my 180, and knowing where to look, I can see a piece or part of him occasionally. Normally I just see a molted shell, instantly think he finally died, but then see it is empty.

I had a pair of them for a couple of years and the bigger fish were OK, but any small fish or slow swimmers became meals. My tangs, clowns and Wrasse were all fine, but the mandarins, gobies and firefish were all dinner

I've had one for 4 years now and it's never harmed anything. I keep smaller slow fish in my tank too like Mandarins and Gobys.

I just pulled my coral beauty out of the tank missing its face! I bought the lobster a month ago and lost one of my paired clowns, my Foxface and my coral beauty! I have watched him snap at fish, but I cant get him out with all the rock work. I'm trying the large glass leaning up against my rock to get him out of there! Just not worth it at all! and the other problem is exactly what Bernie had to say! You never see him much at all
