Purple firefish sunken belly

Good Afternoon,

I am just going to post my firefish.

He has sunken belly and I am wondering if gentics or breeding has caused it.

The fish eats swims and always out and about and Breathing is good. It does have moments that it appears more severe at times and sometimes its barely noticeable

Has it always been like this or recently developed? May be edema or hereditary defect. Is fish eating? If so, what foods are you feeding?

Its always been like this since I got him.

Genetic or developmental issues are pretty common in captive raised fish, but this is wild caught, so I doubt that is the issue.

The simple thing to do would be to increase the amount being fed, both frequency and total amount to see if that resolves the issue.

I will up the amount I feed and see if it changes. The fish acts great otherwise his overall body structure and fat is good apart from his belly.

Thank you guys for the input. Im not super concerned about him just a curious/learning post. You may see alot from me haha

Also, feeding more often during the day can help.

Think about it: if you are feeding the fish just 5% less than it needs, over a few weeks, it can become skinny. Overfeeding is only a problem if uneaten food is left in the tank. Some predatory fish can get fat if overfed, but plankton feeders like this really cannot be.

He/She looks fine to me. We all seem to obsess at times about our citizens of the deep and our aquariums.
