I know some people covet pulsing xennia but I do not. It has run rampent in my tank and competes with my LPS for space. It has even started to grow on top of my Caps!. I pull/peel it off the rock as best as I can when it gets large enough but it always comes back and usually spreads to a new location from the floaters. I try to skim them up w/ a seive but some always escape. Anyone know a way to eradicate them more effectively?

That's a tough one. You have to be diligent. Maybe next time youre chopping it down do a water change so that all of those floaters get sucked up.

The majano wand is dynamite for this - Not sure if you have every heard it but it melts xenias to nothing!

The only way to completely rid your tank and rock of xenia is to bleach the rock the xenia is on. Its a long process, but the only one I have found to actually remove xenia completely.

Osaka, depending on the level of infestation, perhaps you could simply switch out the lr that its on?

Good luck with the eradication, Osaka-san. Xenia is the gift that keeps on giving. :)

Neither bleaching nor removngthe LR is a very desirable option. Thanks for the thoughts though.

It may not be desireable, but that is really the only way to gaurantee removal. They are like aptasia. All it takes is a small piece to still be alive on a rock for it to come back.

I had RS Pompom all over for years... after years of that kind of fun, had a special joy of having a massive quantity go sexual in my tank... apparently Xenia gametes are noxious, cause it was a near total loss. Caught it in the nick of time, thank the gods!
I like to scalpel it off close to the rock, them paste the holy *{%€Â¥ out of it with kalk the consistency of toothpaste. Rub it on em good and they had a hard time recovering. :) Works alright for isolated patches, but not so good with large areas.

To the other corals... possibly fish, they were all tightly hunkered down amidst the event. I am about 90% on it being a sexual event... and here's why: I turned the lights on one morning, to find that the tank was a thick white-out. Like slightly watered down milk. All corals were retracted, some already showing tissue damage/death. All xenia were "deflated" (for lack of a better word). Once all the coral got situated again, all the Xenia appeared to be gone (yay!). Not long after, baby xenia began sprouting up everywhere... in the middle of zoa colonies, on/around all manner of coral, etc. It sucked. Hard...

I got mine from saltwater critters..its really meant for majanos or aiptaisa but works wonders on mushrooms and xenia! Here's the link Saltwater Aquariums, Fish Tank Supplies, Aquarium Products & Reef Tank Equipment - Home

So it disolves whatever it touches when the button is pushed? Does it really work? Looks like a gimick! But if it works... How did you use it? Pull off most oof the problem and touch up the remains or attack the whole animal from the start? Does it leave a residue in the tank?

Any idea what promted the event? Sounds like a giant PITA! How long did it take to chase it all out?

Not sure the trigger... suspect it was from jacking the light cycle around or some critical mass issue... Not sure. :(

Kinda a long story... The system was already sold to a buddy, but this moved up the move date to NOW. I called the boss and the buddy... all plans were cancelled, meetings rescheduled and a tank got tore down and put back up. That day. There's a few straggles left... but extremely few. Like aiptasia they are...
