Powerhead help-need replacement

Need help-180g mixed reef aquarium-currently use jebao scp 150-but it is getting finnicky as heck-turns off randomly-the thing is getting loud as heck-maybe motor going-almost 4 yr old


Looking for recomendations of what to switch to and/or how many of each i need-currently just have the one on right side of tank oushing water right yo left

What’s your budget? If slim, jebao still makes the best budget-friendly ones IMO. If you have deep pockets, ecotech vortechs are top of the line. Two MP40’s oughta do it. Maxspect gyres are awesome too. I have 2 gyres and one mp40 in my 120g. Almost zero dead spots and I love the strong random flow I get with the combination.

Pic of the system helps.
A couple Jebao OW-40's would work well and be cost effective.
You can always get more if needed.
I like their controller better than Tunze and I run alot of Tunze products.
Another option would be a Sea Sweep with a Tunze powerhead.
I run 2 in my 60×30×21 with Tunze 6255's.
1 sweep and a Tunze 6255 can move alot of water. Not cheap but very effective for what they are.

Awesome tank.

Have the flow from this single scp 150 worked for you long time? If I have only have had this in my aquarium for a long time and the result looks like yours - I had only replaced it with a similar pump.

However - I do not see a lot of fish in your aquarium - have you problem with fish surviving? If it is that way - then I would reconsider to use more than one pump and ensure that there is a sufficient exchange of water between the bottom and the surface.

This is due to the fact that such a large biomass of photosynthetic corals, as you have, produces a lot of oxygen during daylight but also consumes a lot of oxygen during darkness. The risk of areas with low or no oxygen content is high unless there is a good mix of the water between the bottom and the surface. The oxygen is both supplied (at night) and removed (during the day under lighting) via a strong surface water movement, but must be properly mixed with the bottom water. I have a similar typ of tank - half the size - and not so densely "planted" as yours.

I use a total wave maker capacity of around 40 000 L/H. I have 5 Wavemakers - Two in the bottom part (one at each side and both hided in the rock work), 1 on the left side in middle water blowing down an 2 on the right side mainly blowing in the surface. I mostly have them on short wave maker mode, creating more or less a standing wave (a Seiche wave) especially during light peak time and night. This type of waves move a lot of water.

I have - as usally for reef aquarium - a surface overflow for my recirculating pump but my aquarium interior is designed so that most of the water must pass from the bottom up via a narrow crack up to the overflow comb.

However - if you do not have any problems with your fish and CUC - do not change to much because the aquarium is great - IMO

Scopas tang -8 yr old

Orange shoulder tang-1 yr old

2 clowns yr old

Chromis -4 yr old

Foxface -yr old

Yellow Coris wrasse6mo old-replaced timor wrasse who died that was 3 yr old

Royal gramma 6mo old

Smith blenny 1.5 yr old

Tank has been uograded to this syatem and setuo for about 3.5 yrs-

Tank was a 120g prior so some of the additions have been becausw of the size change

Nornally i do not lose fish

The only thing is i would say coral dont reproduce quickly-more on the slower side-but that couldve other fsctors

Yea - out of space maybe?

I mention the oxygen because - IMO - its an underrated risk factor for aquarium with a dense population of photosynthetic corals

I appreciate it-i always want to make sure whatever im doing is best for fish and coral-maybe why i over analyze things
