Have been lurking in the shadows a file. I have had a freshwater fish tank since I was 5. Was out of the game during late highschool and college. After starting a family, I decided my daughter should have a tank since she is now 5. Bonus, we are still using the tank I had at 5!!!
My husband thought I was nuts but loves it. He confessed to wanting a tank in his office but saltwater. I was and still am extremely intimidated. Spent a couple months researching. We settled in a 11g cube style from my LFS. We did live reef sand along with roughly 6-7lbs of live rock. I still want more but am very particular with the design I have pictured in my head. Tank is running for about a week now. Already getting some nice coralline growing. Our first fish will be a clown. Going nice and slow and easy.

Once I had gotten my feet wet and some confidence built up, we would like to slowly add yellow goby with candy cane pistol shrimp and a royal gamma.

Wish us luck!

What an AWESOME thing you're doing!!!! And you have the original tank! So cool! Take the opportunity and TEACH HER EVERYTHING!!!! Granted, she's a way off from understanding the chemistry behind it all, but not THAT far off. I was studying cosmology and using a GOOD telescope at 8 and had a pretty good handle on it. And that's only a few years off for you!

So Greetings and Welcome to our collective obsession!!!!

Welcome aboard! Kudos to you for including your little one. I try to get my kids involved in my hobbies. From working on a greasy old car or truck to water changes in the aquariums. Sometimes it's a challenge getting things done but it's all part of the experience.

Welcome to Reef2Reef and the salty side of things! So cool that you're getting your family involved as well. I'm very thankful my husband is a reefer too, although we're bad influences on each other when thinking about buying new stuff. :face-with-tears-of-joy:

Also, don't forget to start your tank thread so we can follow the progress! Link in my signature on how to do that. :)
